Kettering is located approximately 5 miles south of Dayton Ohio near the center of what is known as the Miami Valley River Valley.  The origins of Kettering start with the area’s first log cabin built by John Patterson in 1798.  In 1952 the residents of Van Buren Township voted to incorporate the Village of Kettering.  The name Kettering came from Charles F. Kettering (inventor of the automobile electric starter that replaced the crank starters of cars).  Kettering became a city by proclamation in June of 1955.

Homes in Kettering

Kettering contains many homes in older well-established neighborhoods.  In 2005 there were 821 homes sold in the city of Kettering with an average sale price of $141,345.  Kettering home prices range from $50,000 up to $1,500,000.  New Home prices typically range from $140,000 for a small ranch home to $850,000 for large two story homes on an acre or more lot.

Recreation in Kettering

There are many choices for recreational opportunities in the city of Kettering.  There is the Kettering Recreation Complex – a 145,000 square foot facility that includes the Senior Center, an Ice Arena, lap pool, spa, multipurpose gymnasium and meeting rooms.  The city of Kettering also offers numerous classes and programs as well as adult athletics leagues and a skate park.

The Fraze pavilion is a great place to take in a show – it is a 4,300 seat outdoor amphitheater owned by the city of Kettering and has hosted such acts as Bonnie Raitt, James, Taylor, The Temptations / Four Tops, Vince Gill, The Moody Blues and others.

 In the Arts area there is the Kettering Children’s Theatre and Rosewood Arts Centre – which includes the Rosewood Gallery. a great place to experience visual and performing arts programs. 

Shopping / Restaurants

There are many stores at the Town & Country Shopping Center with many small boutique type stores and a Trader Joes.

 For an acclaimed meal try L’Auberge – a classic french bistro.  Another favorite of Kettering area residents is Mama Di’Salvos Italian Restaurant.

There is also shopping within a short drive in the communities of Beavercreek and Centerville including The Greene.

Schools

Kettering Schools are consistently ranked among the best in the region.  Kettering is also home to Kettering College of Medical Arts offering certicates of training, associates, bachelors degrees.  Fields of study include Nursing, Pre-Med, Physican Assistant, Radiological Sciences and Respiratory Care.
